Map the sources behind AI recommendations

Provider runs, simulation labels and failures follow the VStok measurement methodology.

What the AI citation checker checks

AI answers rely on sources, and those sources often decide who gets named. The checker runs up to 3 buyer prompts through the OpenAI and Google Gemini APIs and sorts the sources it finds by type:

  • Owned: pages on your own site.
  • Third-party: independent publications, review platforms and forums.
  • Competitor-owned: pages that belong to competitors.
  • Unknown: sources whose owner could not be determined.

How to read citation gaps

The report flags common gaps: none of your pages appeared in the sample, recommendations were not backed by independent sources, competitor-owned pages influenced an answer, or citations came from too few sources. Each gap points to a different action — from a page that answers the buyer's question directly to coverage and reviews on the sites models already cite.

Frequently asked questions

Why do sources matter if the brand is already mentioned?

Sources shape how you are described. If an answer relies on a competitor's comparison page or an outdated review, a mention can still work against you.

Which AI models does the free tool check?

The free check runs up to 3 buyer prompts through the OpenAI and Google Gemini APIs. Scheduled tracking and more answer engines, including Perplexity and Claude, are available in a VStok project.

Do I need an account?

No. You can run the check without an account. An email or free account is only needed to save the result and unlock raw answers, all citations and trend tracking.

How reliable is a single check?

It is a small sample, not a final verdict: AI answers vary with wording, model, country and time. Every result states the evidence channel, how many samples succeeded or failed and when the run finished; use repeated measurements before making decisions.
