What Does ChatGPT Think Your Company Does? A 20-Minute Brand Accuracy Audit

A practical audit for finding outdated descriptions, missing use cases and unsupported claims in AI-generated company summaries.

VStok ResearchReviewed by VStok Editorial

The short answer

Ask a web-enabled AI assistant to describe your company, ideal customer, primary product, notable limitations and closest alternatives. Then treat every sentence as a claim that needs a source. Mark it correct, incomplete, outdated, unsupported or materially wrong.

This audit is different from checking whether the brand is recommended. An answer can describe a company accurately and still omit it from a shortlist. Keeping the two questions separate prevents teams from fixing positioning when the actual problem is recommendation evidence—or chasing citations when the company description itself is confused.

Audit time

20 minutes

A focused first pass covers five prompts, a claim ledger and one prioritized source correction.

methodology

Run five questions that expose different errors

Use a fresh conversation without private company context. Enable web search when the product supports it, because the goal is to inspect current public evidence rather than a personalized memory.

  1. What does [Company] do?
  2. Who is [Company] best suited for?
  3. What are [Company]'s main products and integrations?
  4. What are the trade-offs or limitations of [Company]?
  5. Which companies are alternatives to [Company], and why?

Build a claim ledger

Split the answer into testable claims. Product category, audience, availability, pricing model, integrations, geography and named limitations each get a separate row. Record the cited URL when one exists and the authoritative URL that should support the fact.

Not every difference is an error. A summary can use different language while preserving the meaning. Prioritize discrepancies that could change a buyer decision: wrong availability, obsolete pricing, missing core use case, invented integration or an inaccurate security statement.

Correct sources in authority order

Start with the canonical owned page for the fact: pricing for price, documentation for an integration, trust pages for security scope, and product pages for capability. Make the answer explicit in visible text and ensure structured data does not contradict it.

Next, update profiles and independent sources you legitimately control or can correct. Do not create a network of duplicate pages repeating one paragraph. Search systems and AI retrieval work better with clear intent and consolidated canonical evidence than with near-identical variants.

For a harmful factual error on a third-party page, contact that publisher with the canonical evidence. For an AI answer without a visible source, record the sample but avoid pretending you know which training document caused it.

Re-audit without moving the goalposts

Save the prompts, market, model and date. Wait until the corrected page can be fetched and, where relevant, indexed. Then repeat the same questions and compare claim statuses—not just tone.

The strongest result is a traceable one: a material claim moves from wrong or unsupported to correct, and the new answer points to evidence that existed at the time of the re-audit. VStok's brand reputation diagnostic keeps this distinction visible alongside competitor recommendation coverage.

Frequently asked questions

Can a company directly edit what ChatGPT says about it?

Not as a universal company profile. Correct authoritative public pages and the sources that contain the wrong fact, then measure future web-grounded answers.

Should every page repeat the same company description?

No. Keep core entity facts consistent, but let each page answer its own audience and use-case question. Repetitive pages can blur rather than strengthen intent.
